So after what seems like years in anticipation….last night I finally had the privilege of both visiting and dining in the shard!
For those non-Londoners, The Shard is a 72-storey skyscraper that has been almost 4 years in the making! The building looms over the city and from its topping out back in March 2012, I, as an Event Manager, have been dying to get up there to see the space.
Oblix is the creation of Rainer Becker (Zuma/Roka) and draws inspiration from New York and the subsequent New York Grill! The menu was limited (which I prefer) and my selection of sirloin over pork belly and bream was a wise one! A very generous portion and pricing was not as shocking as anticipated with a bottle of wine, two steaks and sides coming in at £110.00!
The wine list extensive, staff are a plenty (though quite snobby which I never understand from waitstaff?!) and the interactive sommelier station and open kitchen create a wonderful buzz not alike anything we have in London at the moment (sushisamba aside still my resounding favourite)! See their albeit brief website Oblix
Would I go back? Yes, most definitely!
